SUMMARY:
The company is a public company with international and multi-state sales. Tax aspects include income, franchise, excise, sales and use, property, fringe benefit plans, including ERISA plans, annual reports and other business filings. Assist the payroll department and the CFO in payroll tax research and tax implications of various compensation scenarios. The position requires a broad range of tax knowledge to meet compliance needs and to assist with tax planning, analysis and research on a variety of subjects.
Responsibilities:
Planning, Analysis and Research
•Calculate tax rate forecasts and tax exposure analysis. •Assist with the development and execution of strategies for minimizing the effective tax rate. •Assist with the analysis of contemplated business opportunities, including potential mergers or acquisition opportunities. •Stay abreast of changes in current international, federal and state income tax laws which may impact the company. •Assist with state/local/international nexus analyses.
Compliance
Prepare detailed work papers to support the calculation of all book/tax differences (at both the consolidated and separate company level) in accordance with SFAS 109 and FIN48 for quarterly and annual financial reporting.
Gather information necessary to prepare and file the required forms and accompanying monthly, quarterly and/or annual payments for all companies. Specifically, support the coordination of the (currently outsourced) tax return preparation for the following filings and make annual and quarterly estimated tax payments as required:
•Federal income taxes •State income taxes •Franchise taxes •Various ERISA plan filings •Others as required
Audits and Inquiries
Assist with preparation of responses to all audits and inquiries with government and regulatory authorities.
•Assist in the preparation of required documents to defend company positions and manage relations with auditors to control scope of audit. •Assist with the resolution of disputes and the minimization of proposed adjustments. •Respond timely to notices of inquiry. •Assist with negotiations to reduce or eliminate assessments for interest and penalties.
REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor’s Degree in Accountancy or related business degree. •CPA •Three (3) to Five (5) or more years of tax experience, preferably a mix of public and non-public accounting. International experience, and/or employee benefit plan experience is a plus. Solid understanding of tax related generally accepted accounting principles and relevant FASB pronouncements. •Ability to prepare international, federal and multi-state income tax, sales and use, property and other tax returns. •Strong organizational and time management skills with attention to details. •Self-motivated and capable of working independently. •Good communication and interpersonal skills. •Computer skills – utilize tax software programs, as well as Microsoft Office applications. |
